A variety of activities took place this week on the theme of ‘Anti Bullying,’ including role play, designing posters, creating ‘rap’ style lyrics and poems on this subject. The week concluded with Blue Friday all pupils wore something with £1 donation going to Children in Need.

Evening and Saturday morning Youth Clubs at Redwood are going from strength to strength with lots of new ideas being discussed. Should you require any further information on this please contact David Butterworth at school.

Key Stage 4 students began a Work Experience block placements at a variety of placements throughout Rochdale.

Chairman and Vice Chairman of Student Council: Congratulations to Garry O, Year 8 who has been elected as Chairman of the Council and Daniel W Post 16, for being elected as Vice Chairman. Tonya D has been chosen as Secretary of the Council. This is a great team now in place and we are looking forward to working alongside them.

Mrs. Stracey’s maths class have been learning all about compass points and finding places and things on maps.

Mr. Owen’s science class have been learning all about crude oil.

Mrs. Barnes class have been doing all sorts of things, from baking cakes to doing jigsaws.

Miss. Greenhalgh’s unit accreditation class have made pictures of fireworks and got to show them off in assembly.

Mrs. Reddin’s have been learning all about the history of the Gunpowder Plot and who was involved in it. The group can tell you how many barrels were used and which King was going to be the victim.

Mr Alcock’s Foundation learning cookery group worked incredibly hard making Gingerbread Halloween treats. Mr Alcock said “they weren’t just scarily good they were spooktacular.” Students worked very hard producing the biscuits as well as advertising the event. Students showed their entrepreneurial skills by ensuring that a profit was made which will enable further cooking delights to hit Redwoods corridors soon.

Key Stage 3 News -Years 8/9 Blue have made chocolate bars as part of Design and Technology lessons, Years 8/9 Red visited the All in One Garden Centre in connection with their English lessons The Gruffalo story, they looked at mice and plants for ideas to that they could use. To celebrate the end of the topic they held a party using all the resources they had made. The Lilac room had a trip to Hollingworth Lake, whilst Yr 7 Red and Green visited Rochdale to buy Christmas resources for the classrooms. Continuing with a theme in the Sensory room it has now been decorated for Eid.

Well done to Elliot, Brandon, Sharma, Ellis, Ben and Hamza for taking part in the Greater Manchester Schools running competition.

Congratulations to Mitchell, Jamie, Nasima, Maithe, Patrick, Komel, Stephanie, Kelsey and Aqsa for taking part in the Swimming Gala.

Sixth form - This week a special mention to one of our first year students, Thomas F who has been offered an extended work placement. This is a special achievement as he is the first of the first year students to be offered this.

Congratulations to the third years involved in the voluntary work with the V Involved group. They have now completed their voluntary work and were presented with a certificate by Roz, for all their hard work.
