Girl Guiding exhibition opened by the Mayor
Date published: 11 November 2010
The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali, has officially opened the ‘100 Years of Girl Guiding in Rochdale’ exhibition at Touchstones in Rochdale.
Mayor Ali was accompanied by Girl Guiding County President Pauline Whitehead and enjoyed a performance of campfire singing from local brownies guides and rainbows.
The exhibition traces the history of guiding both nationally and here in Rochdale through photographs, objects and the memories of those past and present.
This year Girl Guiding is celebrating its centenary year. To mark the celebrations a whole host of activities have taken place, including a night time parade from Oulder Hill high school to Spotland Stadium where the youngsters renewed their girl guiding promise.
The exhibition was opened on Saturday (6 November 2010) and runs until January 2011.
