Spate of thefts from vehicles in Bamford and Norden
Date published: 10 November 2010
Police are warning motorists not to leave valuables on display following a spate of thefts from vehicles across Bamford and Norden.
Between 1 September and 9 November this year, 34 vehicles were broken into where the victims admitted to leaving items on display or their vehicle insecure. Items stolen included, sat navs, mobile phones, sunglasses, cash and tools.
Police in north Rochdale have increased foot patrols in the area and have been busy providing crime prevention advice to motorists after an increase of this type of crime in the area.
However, they are urging vehicle owners to play their part and follow the simple advice.
Police Constable Sarah Firth for Rochdale North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We will continue to do our job and remove these offenders from our streets and officers will be out both day and night to help keep the area safe. However I am appealing to all residents to think about their own security to help put a stop to this type of crime. It is disappointing that people are still leaving their vehicles insecure and make it easy pickings for thieves.
“Park in well lit, busy areas, take all valuables out of your vehicles when it is left unattended and ensure that nothing is left on show, including sat nav cradles and the sucker marks they leave behind. Please remember to secure your vehicle whenever it is left unattended.”
