Man shot in arm in Heywood

Date published: 08 November 2010

A man was shot in the arm at his home in Heywood.

Just after 10.30pm on Sunday 7 November 2010, police were called to Peel Lane following a report a man had been shot.

A 20-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his arm. He was taken to hospital for treatment and has undergone surgery to remove a bullet from his shoulder.

The injuries are not believed to be life threatening and he remains in a stable condition.

Detective Inspector Chris Walker of Rochdale CID said: "I understand that people in Heywood will be concerned by this incident but I want to reassure the whole community that we are treating this incident very seriously.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard something out of the ordinary last night.

"The offender appears to think nothing of using a gun against someone, and we need to catch them before they can try it again.

"If anyone has any information about this incident then please contact the police as it could be vital to our investigation."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 872 5050 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
