Council announces winter break for garden waste collections
Date published: 08 November 2010
Garden waste bin collections across the Rochdale borough will be suspended on 7 December until the end of February 2011 to help Rochdale Borough Council save money.
The amount of garden waste the council collects between these months is significantly lower than that it collects at any other time of the year. As such, the council has decided to suspend the service and ask residents to take any garden waste to their local household waste recycling centre (HWRC) or consider composting it instead.
Refuse and recycling waste collections will continue as normal so residents can put their refuse and recycling bins out on their usual collection days, including over Christmas and New Year.
Commenting on the suspension of garden waste collections, Councillor David Clayton, Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “All councils are having to make significant savings and we’ve had to review everything we deliver and make some tough decisions – including suspending garden waste collections. We apologise for the inconvenience, and we are here to answer any questions you may have.”
You can take your garden waste to any of the three HWRCs in the Rochdale borough, which are open 7 days a week from 8am to 6pm except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day at:
Chichester Street, Rochdale OL16 2AU. Telephone 01706 643871
Springvale, Middleton M24 2HQ. Telephone 0161 653 5271
Peel Lane, Heywood OL10 4PR. Telephone 01706 363956
