NSPCC fundraisers get in the Halloween spirit
Date published: 30 October 2010
The NSPCC Heywood Committee were out in full force today (Saturday 30 October 2010) helping youngsters from the borough to get ready to go trick or treating.
The volunteers gathered at the All in One Garden Centre on Rochdale Road where they had a chocolate tombola and carried out face painting in a bid to have some fun and to raise much needed funds for the NSPCC.
Chairwoman of the NSPCC Heywood Committee Christine Sutton, said: “We are here to raise money for the NSPCC and we are doing that with a chocolate tombola and Halloween face painting, the All-in-one are also very good.
“We haven’t set a target amount because we aren’t sure what to expect but all the money raised will go to the NSPCC. We have no costs, the face painter has given up his time for free and the prizes have been donated.
“The money will primarily go to ChildLine and AdultLine. AdultLine is for adults to ring if they feel somebody needs help and ChildLine is for the children. They are the main things we raise money for because both of the lines get hundreds of calls and it is really worthwhile and it is all there to help the children of our area.”
So far this financial year the Heywood NSPCC committee has raised over £2,500.
Ms Sutton added: “We have done very well this year, we have held several fundraising events and we have done well at them all.”
To sum up Ms Sutton said: “This is a fun day out for children and we can get them ready for trick or treating and it is also to raise awareness. The members of the public that have been here are all very generous and supportive.”
NSPCC Heywood District’s next fundraiser is a coffee morning at Heywood Civic centre on Tuesday 23 November.
