Lions Clubs from Rochdale organised a sponsored walk along the Rochdale Canal Towpath, between Manchester and Todmorden recently to raise money for air ambulance services.
Eighty-one walkers took part in the event, and although full sponsorship money hasn’t yet been calculated the group is hoping to have a good amount to split between the Yorkshire and North West Air Ambulances.
Littleborough and District Lions member Harry Hawksworth said: “The weather was in our favour giving the walkers an excellent day and everything ran smoothly.
“We have had quite a lot of feed back from the walkers who complimented the Lions on their excellent organisation of the day.”
The walk is an annual event, now in its ninth year and it is hoped it will run next year too.
Mr Hawksworth added: “The organisation of the event provided enjoyment for the Lions Clubs involved and enjoyment for the walkers on the day. It also provided funds, as usual, for a very worthy cause. Time well spent by organisers and walkers. Without the walkers it would not be possible. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.”
The Lions are also holding a quiz night to raise funds for the air ambulances.
The quiz night will be held on Wednesday 24 November at the Littleborough Conservative Club at 8pm.
