Families head out into autumn air
Date published: 26 October 2010
Families at Meanwood Sure Start Children Centre enjoyed a day of outdoor fun last week in a special exploring adventure session. The Saturday fun saw 25 families attend the centre to join in the den and tent making and forest skills including looking at plants and wildlife and exploring the wild area outside the centre.
There was chance to get up close to bugs with a magnifying glass too.
The event was particularly popular with dads and male carers who brought their children along. It offered a chance to get out of the house and spend some quality time with their children outside of the busy schedule.
Activities were directed and overseen by Elaine MacKelvie, Advisory Children's Centre Teacher.
There was also a safety first message of how to enjoy outdoor activities and stay safe.
Families made the most of the dry autumn weather with the warm sun whilst taking in the fresh air. Once back inside there was milk and fruit at the end of the session before families headed home with the materials they had collected to build their own den at home.
Tracie Taylor Parent Empowerment Worker said: “This session is a brilliant way to give families who may not be able to attend sessions during the week a chance to attend a fun outdoor session where older siblings can also attend.”
Parent, Liz Meehan came with husband Karl and daughter Anya Meehan. She said:
“We were really looking forward to spending time together as a family, the day was excellent and Anya loved sitting in her den and exploring in the woods looking for different bugs.”
