Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce has launched a competition for teams of schoolchildren across Greater Manchester to re-design the gongs currently worn by the Chamber’s President and Vice Presidents.
The ‘Come Design with Me’ competition is open to schools involved in the Young Chamber initiative and involves the teams designing a set of badges for the Presidents to wear at meetings and events, to replace the current gongs. Teams can use their contacts from the local business community to help them with the project and winners will receive a trophy and a trip to Daytona Manchester.
The panel of judges for the competition includes new Chamber President, Martin Douglas; Chamber Chief Executive, Clive Memmott, plus professional designer Louise Carter from design agency, Creative Lynx. Competition co-ordinator, Jodie McNally from Education Business Solutions, will complete the line up. The judges will begin their deliberations in January with the new badges making their first appearances in the Spring.
Commenting on the competition, Martin Douglas, President of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said: “The teams have been asked to come up with designs that are contemporary, but timeless. The previous badges of office that we have been wearing around our necks are fine, historical items, often incorporating designs that depict industry or a worldly view. The new badges will need to be strongly symbolic of the role of the Chamber and have a lasting quality about them, immune to changing fashion. It’ll be fascinating to see what the teams come up with!”
Newly elected Vice Presidents, Phil Cusack and Neil Smith, will also receive new badges. The new designs will be mounted in such a way as to enable them to be worn either clipped on to the lapel or pocket of a jacket.
Teams have until December 17 to submit their entries. Schools requiring more information and details about how to take part in the competition, should contact Jodie McNally at Education Business Solutions on 0161 772 1000, or e-mail: Jodie.mcnally@eb-solutions.org.uk
