Health and Safety review

During 2009/10 100% of all premises due for a health and safety inspection by Rochdale Council were visited. A total of 821 inspections were made and 58 accidents were investigated.

A further 363 general health and safety complaints, 52 asbestos related complaints and 434 Licensing Act consultations were dealt with.

175 visits were made to businesses at a high risk of work related violence, such as armed robberies.

21 improvement notices and two immediate prohibition notices were served.

Also, 1102 premises were checked for compliance with smoke free legislation. 23 fixed penalty notices, nine formal warnings and one successful prosecution was made.

During 2010/11 the service will maximise resources and build upon the work already done.
