Food for the family

Date published: 19 October 2010

Four parents at Derby Street Sure Start Children’s Centre completed the nutrition skills level one recently.

The course was run by the nutrition team and involved parents learning about how to cook healthy nutritious food, the levels of fat and sugar in food, weaning, basic food hygiene and kitchen safety.

One parent has gone on to complete level two and level three and now supports delivery of the fun with food course at the centre.

The course links into the children’s centre aim of enabling families to ‘be healthy’.
Parent Lindsay Elliot said: “I have completed a number of courses at Derby Street and have really enjoyed them. I have now passed my Nutritional Skills Level 1, 2 and level 3.”

Derby Street Sure Start Children’s Centre offer a full timetable of events for families with children aged 0 – 5 throughout the week. This is online at www.rochdale.gov.uk/childrenscentres
