Beech House School

Date published: 19 October 2010

All three departments of the school took part in their Harvest Festival Assemblies. The celebrations included new cheerful harvest songs, stories and thoughts for the day. Pupils brought in food gifts to pass on to the Petrus House Homeless Charity.
Thank you for all the lovely food and money harvest donations that we received.

Year 3 and 4 were visited by firemen from Oldham Fire Brigade.
They explained to us what a fireman did, which is a lot more than just putting out fires. Then one fireman demonstrated how he would quickly put on all of his equipment. They also explained how they stay safe when tackling fires by entering buildings in pairs and we heard the alarm that goes off if they are in danger.
We then looked at fire hazards and fire safety both in the home and on bonfire night.
Finally, we all went outside to have a good look around a fire engine and we all fired water from a fire hose. One of the firemen was Adam Millington’s dad and he splashed Adam with water. It was very enjoyable and very informative – we even got goodie bags.

The Beech House School Senior Swimming Team travelled to the Liverpool Aquatic Centre for the Independent Schools North of England Swimming Finals. For most of the swimmers it was the first time they had competed in a 50m pool. The highlights were Jack Brook winning the silver medal in the under 19 100m backstroke and Aston Buckley the silver medal in the under 13 50m freestyle. In addition the school won three bronze medals in the 4x1 50m freestyle relays. The teams were under 13 – Yusef Seoud, Jack Cryer, Aston Buckley and Kingsley Benson under 16 – Jack Brook, Jacob Wright, Harry Hayden and Harrison Groome under 19 – Amy Platt, Safa Zafoor, Yolandar Cruz and Victoria Burnett
