Fundraiser goes the extra mile

A man from Wardle is taking part in a series of gruelling challenges to raise money for a children’s charity.
Danny Hirst has been training hard to complete a swimming race, two 10k runs, three half marathons and one full marathon to raise money for When You Wish Upon A Star.
Mr Hirst decided to take part in as many challenges as possible in a bid to “beef up the challenge.”
“I decided I would do as many things as possible all raising money for the same charity,” said Mr Hirst.
Mr Hirst has just two of his challenges left to complete, the first is the swim, he was due to take part in the Great North Swim which was cancelled so instead he is aiming to swim two miles in his local pool at Wardle High School.
“People think because it’s in a pool that it is easier – but it isn’t. The Great North Swim was only one mile so I have doubled the challenge.”
The second is a half marathon which is taking place this weekend.
Mr Hirst is hoping to raise £1,000 for his chosen charity, so far he has raised just over £730.
“Ideally I am hoping to reach my target. It is all going to charity so any donations are a great help,” he said.
Although the challenge has been tough, Mr Hirst has achieved some of his personal best times. He did admit however, when the two remaining events are over he will be having a well deserved rest.
