£500k spent on surgery extension and refurbishment

Date published: 22 September 2010

Longford Street Group Practice is spending £500,000 to improve their existing surgery and services in Heywood town centre.

A new extension will provide a pharmacy, dental suite, additional treatment rooms, and improvements to the existing building, will complement this.

CJ Partnership architects, based in Castleton, have been employed directly by the practice to design and project manage the development.

The existing building is to be upgraded to improve the environment for patients and staff alike. These include a new lighting scheme and a more energy efficient heating system, which utilises air source heat pumps.

The double storey extension will be clad with contemporary terracotta tiles and have a
tall glazed entrance lobby. The building will be a vibrant and attractive addition to the
townscape, and its green credentials will provide cost and environmental benefits.

Paul Clark of CJ Partnership, said: “The Longford Street Group Practice should be
applauded for their investment in improved healthcare facilities for the local community
and their commitment to carbon reduction”.

This development is part of the ongoing improvements of the town centre, which include the conversion of the Old Police Station into managed office space, a project also undertaken by CJ Partnership.
