Hundreds raised at charity fun day

Date published: 31 August 2010

A charity event in Littleborough has raised more than £800 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Family Fun Day at The Moorcock Inn involved a range of entertainment throughout the day, including face painting, a raffle and bouncy castle, all aiming to generate money for the cause.

The day was officially opened by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali, last Friday (27 August 2010) and attended by actor Paul Oldham, a friend of the event’s hosts Pauline and Alan Ashworth who run the Moorcock.

Thanks to the money raised the day was great in particular for Marie Curie Cancer Care, which provides high quality nursing free of charge, giving people with terminal cancer and other illnesses the chance of remaining at home with the support of their family.

Christine Morgan, Vice Chair of Rochdale Support Group for Marie Curie Cancer Care said: “We had a great day at The Moorcock Inn thanks to Pauline, Alan, their staff and everyone’s generosity. Paul Oldham was a star turn and the entertainment was so good no-one wanted it to end. Thanks too to everyone who came and supported us and made it such an enjoyable and successful fundraiser.”

Visitors were entertained in the afternoon sunshine with a display from the St Ann’s Milnrow Morris troupe and varying Karaoke performances by children and adults. The Milnrow Carnival Queen and Princess also attended the help out with the games and selling raffle tickets.

In the evening professional singers Barrie English and Ann Hudson took to the stage to thrill the crowd before the headline act, The Potato Men, took to the stage and kept revellers dancing into the late hours.
