GCSE Joy for Middleton Technology School

Date published: 24 August 2010

A two hundred strong crowd of pupils from Middleton Technology School arrived in full force to collect their GCSE results this morning (Tuesday 24 August 2010).

Overall, the school achieved an 85.9% A-C result, which was an improvement on last year. The new Diplomas in IT, Engineering and SHD (Society, Health and Development) were a notable success, with all students who had taken these qualifications achieving a pass.

Head teacher, Allison Crompton, was more than happy with the results, she said: “I'm delighted with the efforts of the students, staff and parents. I'm pleased that many of the students are returning next year, and those students who are leaving us, I'd like to wish them all the best for the future.”

Notable successes at the school include:

  • Alex Denniston –11 GCSEs: 5 A*s and 6 A grades
  • Adam Price – 13 GCSEs: 5 A*s, 5 As and 3 B grades
  • Maria Ayrey – 13 GCSEs, including 4 A*s and 3 A grades
  • Natalie Sutcliffe – 11 GCSEs: 7 A*s and 4 A grades

One of the last students to receive her results was Danielle Stephenson.

Ms Stephenson arrived at the school with her parents and initially didn't believe she'd passed any exams.

A member of staff was on hand to explain the paperwork and grading systems, confirming that the nervous teen had in fact gained a C in both Maths and English, as well as a Distinction in her BTEC Engineering and four passes in her BTEC Health and Social care course.

Ms Stephenson will now be going to college to study sociology and medical science.
