Delight for St. Anne's Academy students

Date published: 24 August 2010

Students from St Anne’s Academy in Middleton are sure to be celebrating tonight (Tuesday 24 August 2010) after receiving their GCSE results.

The downpour failed to dampen the spirits of the hard working students who arrived at the school to find out whether their endless hours of revision had paid off.

Eric Jackson, in the last few days of his role at Principal, was on hand to offer support and encouragement to his students, together with many of the staff.

Charlotte Doran and Kirsty Malvy, both 14, had taken some GSCEs a year early, with Ms Malvy’s tally including nine Bs and three Cs. Fellow student Jade Bradley, 16, was very pleased with her results of two As, six Bs and three Cs. Ms Bradley is staying on at St Anne’s Sixth Form, she said: “There is a great rapport between the teachers and students. There is so much determination for everyone to achieve their best grades.”

Assistant Principal James Fildes said initial results suggested that the vast majority of students had reached or exceeded their projected grades, which was very encouraging for both teachers and students.

Students Laura Robinson, Sian Watson and Paige Holt, all 16 and from Middleton, were very happy with their results.

Ms Robinson gained 11 GCSEs, Ms Holt gained seven GCSEs and Ms Watson was pleased with her impressive tally of eleven GSCEs, one A* and ten A grades. All three agreed that all the hard work had been worth it.

With the Prom unanimously voted at the highlight of the last year, it's clear it's not all class work and assignments that contribute to the student's success.

The girls are all looking forward to coming back in September to join St. Anns's Sixth Form, in what is essentially a brand new, purpose built teaching environment. The girls said: “They can't get rid of us that easily!”
