St Cuthbert’s students celebrate GCSE results

Despite the torrential rain this morning (Tuesday 24 August 2010) pupils at St Cuthbert’s RC High School were beaming with pride as they collected their GCSE results.

The teenagers gathered in the school hall to receive their results, some had sleepless nights, others couldn’t face opening the envelopes, but it is safe to say that everyone, teachers included, were smiling.

The school’s head teacher Dr Chris Meehan said: “We are once again delighted with the achievements of our young people. They have been well prepared for the next steps in their chosen careers, I would like to thank the teachers and the support staff for all their hard work – they are so committed at serving the needs of our youngsters.

Assistant Head teacher Angela Taylor added: “The results are really good, we are very pleased. Many of the children have decided to stay on here which we are really pleased about.”

Katie Fisher had a sleepless night last night but there was no need as she was awarded three As, two Bs, four Cs and two Ds she said: “Last night was horrible, I couldn’t sleep I was so nervous. When I got my envelope I was terrified but now I feel really happy.”

Gabriella Toniolo was celebrating 8A* and 6As she said: “I am really happy and relived, I wasn’t too nervous but I feel really happy now.”

Ms Toniolo is going to study A-levels in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and PE at Holy Cross College in Bury.

William Spillane was awarded with six A*s 3As and 2Bs he said: “I felt really good when I picked up my results, I worked hard and I am pleased to be staying on at sixth form here.”

Lucie Berwick was delighted with her GCSE results, she gained one A*, three As, four Bs and three Cs.

She said: “I am really happy, I was so nervous – I am looking forward to our results party tonight!”

Jessica Goulding was thrilled with her grades, she was awarded one A, four Bs and 4 Cs, she said: “I am really pleased, I am going to Bury College to study Biology, Health and Social and Psychology – I am so happy with my grades, I worked really hard. My favourite GCSEs were Biology and Health and Social because I want to be a nurse.”
