Date published: 18 August 2010

A Heywood born actor who stars in Channel 4 show Shameless has been arrested after a hit-and-run incident in London.

Elliot Tittensor, who plays Carl Gallagher, allegedly hit an 18-year-old man with his BMW Z4 in Kentish Town north London at 2am on Sunday morning.

The victim suffered head injuries and his condition has been described as serious but stable.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called to reports of a collision involving a BMW Z4 and a pedestrian.

"An 18-year-old man was taken by London Ambulance Service to hospital suffering from head injuries."

He continued: "The male driver did not stop at the scene.

"He later handed himself into officers at a central London police station and was arrested in connection with the collision."

Mr Tittensor was given bail later on Sunday.

The actor's breakthrough role in television came when he starred in Brookside with his twin brother Luke.

In April, Luke Tittensor admitted at Bolton Crown Court to fracturing the jaw of a 16-year-old boy in a brawl in Rochdale. He was given a nine-month suspended sentence for two years.
