Football match raises £300 for flood victims

Date published: 18 August 2010

A charity football match has been played raising £300.00 for the Pakistan Flood Appeal.
Two of Rochdale’s Asian football teams put their best foot first in a bid to raise desperately needed funds.

Rochdale Asia FC and Wardleworth (WSA) played for the Unity Cup - the idea of the Unity Cup is to help promote the Rochdale teams in good light

Both teams went head to head with Rochdale Asia taking the lead 2-1 and bagging the Unity title.

The players all enjoyed a great game of football with everyone participating being a winner.

This is the first time the Unity Cup game has been played but event organiser Azmat Khan hopes to run the tournament in 2011 and promises for it to be even bigger and better.

Rais Bhatti (Rochdale Asia FC Manager) said: “We are overwhelmed with the great response we have had from all the teams and the local community in Rochdale.

“It’s been fantastic to get the local Asian teams together for the Unity Cup to raise money for a good cause.

“I’m positive next year will be even more of success.”
