More damage to church
Date published: 18 August 2010
St Andrew’s Methodist and United Reformed Church on Smith Street, Rochdale has suffered more damage.
All the windows on the bus station side of the church were damaged last Thursday (12 August 2010).
The window picturing a cross behind the church’s communion table has also been damaged.
On Sunday the remaining windows of the church were also damaged.
The Church windows are now currently boarded up but the church is still open.
Jan Hicks the church’s secretary described the vandalism as “very sad and disappointing.”
She added: “We are trying to open up the church to the community and this has happened.
The damaged windows are made up of two sheets of glass and the stones are stuck in the glass quite high up.
Sergeant Colin Macdiarmid from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Mindless damage such as this has a direct impact on the community who make use of the church and I would appeal for anyone with any information about who might be responsible to call police."
Anyone with information is asked to call the Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0161 856 8523, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
