Fairy fun for the family

Maisie Holt finding a fairy in the Dell
Forty parents, staff and children from Meanwood Sure Start Children’s Centre joined a magical trip to Healey Dell last week in a mission to find fairies.
The session was to encourage families to walk together, spot nature along the way and enjoy time together during the summer. The trip included older brothers and sisters who were on school holidays.
The families met at the centre and walked to Healey Dell, where fairies had been hidden in and around the trees for the children to find.
The sunny day meant that the families were able to enjoy the activities outside as planned. The children under the watchful eyes of grown ups were able to paddle in a tiny stream and due to previous wet weather there were lots of puddles for the children to splash in. There were lots of birds and wildlife to spy in the Dell as well.
Sam O’Neill Senior Early Years Worker said: “Healey Dell is a lovely place and so near to the children’s centre that we decided to make good use of it. There are tales about fairies living in the Dell so we decided to go and look for them. We were pleased with how many families joined us on the day.”
Parent, Janine Chapman, said: “It was a lovely afternoon, very magical and enjoyable.”
