Don’t make it easy for car thieves, warns Inspector

Date published: 17 August 2010

Middleton’s Inspector, Gary Hall, is warning motorists not to make life easy for thieves following an increase in vehicle crime in the area.

Police in Middleton have increased foot patrols in the area and have been busy providing crime prevention advice to motorists after an increase of this type of crime in the area.

Checks were carried out by members of the Neighbourhood Policing Team on cars parked in the area and found that residents were leaving gifts such as mobile phones, sat navs and iPods out on show.

Inspector Gary Hall said: “We will continue to do our job and remove these offenders from our streets and officers will be out both day and night to help keep the area safe. However I am appealing to all residents to think about their own security to help put a stop to this type of crime. It is disappointing that people are still leaving their vehicles insecure and make it easy pickings for thieves.

“Park in well lit, busy areas, take all valuables out of your vehicles when it is left unattended and ensure that nothing is left on show, including Sat Nav cradles and the sucker marks they leave behind. Please remember to secure your vehicle whenever it is left unattended.
