No Sunday trains until September

Date published: 13 August 2010

Trains between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria are not running on a Sunday until September.

The changes to the Sunday train service are to accommodate engineering works.

However, STORM (Support the Oldham, Rochdale and Manchester Rail line) member John Murray is concerned that people are unaware of the service change.

Along with other STORM members Mr Murray has been guiding passengers on the Castleton platform up to the bus replacement service.

Mr Murray said: “The signs are insufficient somebody needs to be there to let people know otherwise they will miss the bus.

“Myself and Richard Greenwood of STORM have been directing people and I would say they have been very grateful that we were there to help.”

A spokesperson for Northern Rail said: “Due to engineering works, Northern Rail is unable to run services between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria on a Sunday until the 12 September.

“Train services will be replaced by buses in both directions and customers are advised to check station posters or contact National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 for further information.

“Unfortunately, the buses will not be able to carry dogs, non-folding pushchairs, bicycles or wheelchairs. Northern Rail apologise for any inconvenience this will cause.”

Sunday trains from Rochdale to Manchester Victoria will run as normal from Sunday 12 September.
