Cloverleaf group supplied with a splash of colour

Date published: 12 August 2010

Children from the Cloverleaf group at Langley Children's Centre enjoyed a fun surprise this week courtesy of Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale and construction company Seddon.

The children were supplied with gardening kits donated by Seddon, they also made hanging baskets and planted violas for a burst of summer colour.

The children at the centre are used to using their green fingers as several months ago parents and carers created a small garden area for the users of the centre complete with vegetable planters, a bug hotel and other horticultural interests.

Mhorag Saxon, Project Officer, Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale, said: “Groundwork are thrilled to be working together with Langley Childrens Centre and Seddon. The children have loved planting their hanging baskets and have really enjoyed working outside in their garden area at the centre.”

Maggie Heap, Community Project Manager at Seddon, added: “We have carried out a lot of work to homes in the Langley area and have been involved with quite a few community initiatives, but this has got to be one of our favourites. It is great to see the children enjoying the outdoors and benefiting from the garden area.”

The children's centre is also hoping to create a Forest School area on some vacant land next to Langley Library which will be used by a number of different children from across the estate. With support from Groundwork, a funding bid will be submitted in the near future. The children have also had the opportunity to make bird tables for the forest area with wood donated by Seddon.
