Pensioners association hold charity lunch
Date published: 11 August 2010
Pensioners from across the borough turned out in full force today (Wednesday 11 July 2010) for a special charity lunch.
75 men and women from the Rochdale Pensioners Association joined in the reception room at Rochdale Town Hall, for a bite to eat and entertainment courtesy of Dave Diamond Nights.
The special treat for the group was to give the pensioners a chance to socialise as well as raising money at the same time.
The chosen charity for this particular pensioner’s event was the Springhill Hospice.
Emily Bannister, secretary of the group said: “We try to arrange a get together once or twice a month whether it be trips or lunches.
“When we started to put this together we decided that the proceeds would go to Springhill Hospice, for the simple reason that it means a lot to the members, most of them know one or more person who has been through the hospice.”
After the lunch the guests took part in a raffle and charity auction.
Ms Bannister added: “We have new members coming every week; we are now in the region of about 121 since starting 21 years ago.
“Today our thanks go to Simon Danczuk MP for coming along and Councillor Farooq Ahmed.
“We would also like to thank the caterers who have done a wonderful job.”
