Kitchen fire at Rochdale house

Fire-fighters attended a fire at a detached house on Wellfield Street yesterday (Monday 9 August) afternoon.
Two fire crews from Rochdale Station attended the fire.
On arrival they found a fire involving plastic cooking utensils in the oven - five people from the property self rescued prior to the arrival of Fire Crews.
Firefighters tackled the fire using a Hose Reel whilst wearing Breathing Apparatus; a Positive Pressure Fan was also used to extract the smoke from the property.
Community Fire Safety Advice
- Never leave cooking unattended- even to answer the 'phone or the door - serious fires can start when your distracted, even for a few seconds
- When cooking fried food, dry it before you put it in the hot oil. If the oil starts to smoke, turn off the heat and leave the pan to cool
- Never fill the pan more than one-third full of oil
- Never throw water over the pan
