Greater Manchester Police has been informed that BT has now resolved the telephone problems caused by engineering works.
These issues did not affect the police emergency or non-emergency lines and the volume of calls received on these lines this morning has been consistent with any other Friday morning.
Superintendent Karan Lee, from GMP's Operation Communications Branch, said: "In the early hours of Friday 6 August 2010, we became aware that there was a problem with the BT network and residents in several areas of Greater Manchester were unable to use their phone lines.
"More high visibility patrols went into the areas affected so those who need the help of the emergency services are able make contact in person quickly.
"Greater Manchester Police provided a normal response to all calls throughout the network failure."
