The ban, if it gets the go ahead will be implemented in all ten regions covered by AGMA.
Greater Manchester’s ten council chiefs want to create a bylaw which would make it illegal for shops and pubs to sell alcohol for less than 50p a unit.

The region’s ten council chiefs hope to create a new bylaw which would make it illegal for shops and pubs to sell alcohol for less than 50p a unit.

The Deputy Leader of Rochdale Council, Councillor Ashley Dearnley said: “There is concern about the effects that cheap beer has on people, although I don’t know all the details of the plan I do think it is something that needs to be looked at severely.

“At the moment I don’t know all the fine details but it isn’t something that I would be opposed to.”

Andy Walker from the North West office of the Our Life campaign group said: “From our point of view this campaign is a welcome step, it is good to see that local authorities across greater Manchester are looking to address alcohol harm in this way.”

The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) Health Commission will now draw up details of how the ban could be implemented across the region the results of this report will be presented in October.
