Travellers return to Cronkeyshaw Common
Date published: 29 July 2010

These travellers were on the same site a couple of weeks ago
Travellers have returned to Cronkeyshaw Common despite being moved on from the land just two weeks ago.
Following the removal of the travellers a clean up was undertaken by the council.
The travellers are believed to arrived on the site on Tuesday night at around 6.45pm and has been described by a resident as “a caravan convoy driving up Whitworth Road”
The resident said: “The council supposedly dumped mounds of soil/rubble to stop the travellers returning back to that site. Yet again the travellers are causing major problems on a site they have just been forced off. How long will it take to remove them off this site again?”
A spokesperson for Rochdale Borough Council said: “Whilst we carry out the necessary welfare checks on the travellers, we have started the necessary legal procedures to result in their eviction and to install more effective blockade measures.”
