Councillor Swift starting his European Computer Driving License Course
Councillor Keith Swift, Cabinet Member for Skills and Economic Recovery, is leading the way in his role for championing Skills within the Borough.
Councillor Swift was today (Thursday 29 July 2010) inducted as a student at Adult Community Training where he will start an ECDL, European Computer Driving License Course.
Linda O’Rourke, a qualified Tutor and employee from the Future Jobs Fund, instructed the councillor through his Initial Assessment.
Councillor Swift is keen to add to his skills, he said: “While I prefer to talk to someone face to face I am realistic enough to know this is not always possible.
“The skills I will be learning on the ECDL course will allow me to communicate with someone wherever they are.”
Councillor Swift added: “No matter what age we are learning and improving our skills keeps us up to date and enable us to use modern methods of communication. This is always an advantage whether at home or in the workplace.”
Jane Georgiou, Manager at Adult Community Training, said: “It’s wonderful that Councillor Swift is championing skills within the borough. The ECDL course is a great step towards equipping people with the skills they need in today’s information age. Whether it is keeping in touch with far flung family members, job searching, typing a letter or reading the news online computers are for everyone.”
