Children’s Centre celebrates Ofsted report

Date published: 27 July 2010

Parents, children and staff at Newbold Sure Start Children’s Centre held a celebration party after the centre was judged as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. The centre, which was visited earlier this month, was the first in the borough to be inspected since legal status was given to Children’s Centres in April.

Inspectors highlighted a number of key areas as outstanding including keeping users safe and protected, and promoting their health and wellbeing through excellent partnership working with health care professionals such as midwives, health visitors and the dental health team.

The inspectors noted: “Newbold is a good and rapidly improving centre. Staff and other adults consistently give the highest priority to safeguarding all children and their families and the quality of care, guidance and support to users provided by the centre is excellent. The quality of care for children and parents is exceptionally good and relationships are excellent.”

They also praised staff, who they said are passionate about the centre and its community.

“Senior leaders set the tone, communicate high expectations and are determined to ensure that the centre is effective in improving the life chances of all users.”

Inspectors also reported some of the comments that parents had made during their visit:

“The centre has made a massive difference to my life”

“The really good emotional support has been a godsend.”

Alison Smith Centre Leader said: "I am so proud of all the staff. Their dedication and commitment to Newbold Children’s Centre has been reflected in our successful Ofsted report. We want to share the good news with all the families and children and thank them for making our centre the wonderful place it is.”

Councillor Fitzsimons added her congratulations: “Rochdale has once again proved it’s exceptionally good childcare provision and education which is evident from this excellent OFSTED report. I am particularly pleased with the outstanding partnership work with health care professionals and the community. This provides the very best service for Rochdale families. Congratulations to all those who work at Newbold Children’s Centre.”
