Jim Dobbin MP signs 'Fair Treatment Now' pledgeboard
Jim Dobbin MP for Heywood and Middleton attended the parliamentary launch of mental health charity Rethink’s new campaign, ‘Fair Treatment Now,’ recently.
The campaign is pushing for the government to protect mental health services.
A report published by Rethink reveals that:
- Only one in six people with mental illness receive the treatment they are entitled to (and which is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical
- Excellence) Fewer than half of people with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (49%) are offered psychological therapies, even though they are recommended treatment
- GPs lack confidence in the quality of specialist services for people with mental illness
Jim Dobbin MP, said: “There have been many missed opportunities in the past to put things right and make sure that vulnerable people with severe mental illness, over 1.5 million, get the right treatment to help them recover.
“I support Rethink’s campaign Fair Treatment Now as I believe it is essential that mental health services are given adequate provision during this time of financial hardship.”
