Fire service rescue dog returns from quarantine

Six months after being deployed to the Haiti earthquake as part of the team from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), Echo the Labrador, GMFRS’ specialist search and rescue dog has now completed his quarantine period, returned home and is available again for operational incidents.

Echo was called to Haiti, along with Mike Dewar his handler, as part of an eleven strong team from Greater Manchester who helped make up the team of 64 fire-fighters from across the UK who responded to the international call for assistance following a devastating earthquake on the Caribbean Island.

County Fire Officer Steve McGuirk said: “It gives us great pleasure to welcome Echo back home.

“I‘m sure I will be joined in that sentiment by the team members who worked alongside Echo in Haiti, all personnel in Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and the public of Greater Manchester, who have sent many kind messages of support while Echo was in quarantine”.
