Heritage Open Days announced

The boroughs spectacular and intriguing buildings that are opening their doors to the public this September for the annual Heritage Open Days weekend have been revealed.

Heritage Open Days (9 – 12 September 2010) is a nationwide event, celebrating England’s architecture and culture.

It offers free access to buildings that are usually closed to the public or charge admission. Buildings of every age, style and function will be opening this September along with a range of tours, events and activities.

Buildings in the borough of Rochdale include: JW Lees Brewery in Middleton, Rochdale Curtain Theatre, Rochdale Town Hall, the Old Grammar School in Middleton, Healey Dell Visitor Centre, the Parish Church of St Chad, the Golden Mosque in Rochdale and Rochdale Pioneers Museum on Toad Lane.

A range of fascinating free guided walks will also be available, including Harehill Park in Littleborough, Broadfield Park in Rochdale and Queen’s Park in Heywood.

Tourism Officer Tim Nuttall said Heritage Open Days is a once a year chance to discover hidden architectural treasures and enjoy a range of tours, events and activities: “We’ve put together a great bunch of fascinating and free things to do, which will really bring local history and culture to life. This year we’ve added some fabulous new experiences.”
