Improving town centre transport links
Date published: 22 July 2010
Rochdale Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, Councillor Liz Thirsk is working on various plans to improve links to the town centre.
In Councillor Thirsk’s report to the council, she states: “We are working with the owners of Central Retail Park to deliver an extended Wood Street across the site to complete the southern loop of the town centre ring road. This would remove some traffic from the bottom of Drake Street and enable the earlier delivery of the Metrolink into the Town Centre at reduced cost.”
The report continues to outline other plans, it says: “We are looking at ways of improving connectivity and pedestrian links through the town centre between the colleges and the town centre. This would include some improvements to the memorial gardens area and subway under St Mary’s Gate.”
