Students celebrate the end of an era
Date published: 21 July 2010
Students, staff, parents and friends of Springhill High School joined together in celebration today (Wednesday 21 July 2010) to mark the end of an era.
On Friday (23 July 2010) the school will close, re-opening in September as a new school called Kingsway Park High School, an amalgamation of Springhill High and Balderstone School.
To mark the occasion the school fields and outdoor sports grounds were transformed into a colourful, musical and enjoyable area for students to celebrate all their success and happy times at the school.
Aside from the staff band blasting out hits other activities included the Skylight Circus, face painting and street dancing.
Deputy Headteacher, Mr Steve Parratt, the only member of the senior teaching staff to continue at the new school, said: “This is a great way for us all to finish – on a high!
“Over the last ten years this school has changed so much; it has gone from a mediocre school to an outstanding school. I am chuffed to bits at how much the school has gone up.
Mr Parratt described the school as having a ‘community feel’ he said: “I am excited for the new school in September, I think it will be amazing, it is always a difficult choice for the children in this community who have gone to junior school together and then the choice has to be made whether they come here or go to Balderstone.
“Now that wont happen, all the students will go together.”
Kingsway Park High School will open on a split site basis from September 2010, with the year 11’s staying on their original school site to avoid disruption to their studies. Years 7 and 10 will study on the Balderstone site and years 8 and 9 will attend the current Springhill High School site.
