Over £1500 raised for charity
Date published: 20 July 2010
Over £1600 was raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care on Sunday (18 July 2010),
A large group of people turned out to walk around Hollingworth Lake to raise money for the charity despite the rainy conditions.
Rochdale Support Group had organised the sponsored walk which started and finished at the Rugby club and despite the weather, spirits were high and there were lots of laugh as families, friends and supporters made their way round.
When the walkers arrived back at the Rugby club they enjoyed bacon butties and were entertained by a lively selection of music from the Wardle Community Band.
The afternoon ended with Rochdale Support group’s annual summer raffle being drawn with a selection of prizes on offer, many donated by local businesses.
The prizes included a meal for four at Mr Thomas’ Fish ‘n Chip’s restaurant, Sunday lunch for two at Madisons, flowers from Buddies, a gift basket from Swing Cottage, a gift basket from Little Deli, Littleborough, meat vouchers courtesy of Cryers Butchers, and wine from the Rugby Club.
Christine Morgan, Vice Chairwoman Rochdale Support Group for Marie Curie Cancer Care said: “I would like to thank everyone who did the walk, the Rugby Club for giving us the venue and facilities, local businesses and the Wardle Community Band for their great music.
“It is a constant source of amazement to me how generous people are both with their time and money to support the charity. Money is still coming in and we anticipate the final total will be over £1600 which is fantastic.”
All funds raised will provide high quality, free nursing care to give people with terminal cancer and other illnesses the choice of dying at home, supported by their families.
