Youngsters snap up photography prizes

Members of Rochdale’s Out of School Clubs have been snapping away over the last few weeks as part of a borough-wide photography competition.

With the long school holidays almost here, they were challenged to take photographs on the theme of ‘My right to play’.

Fourteen clubs took part in the competition, submitting more than 100 photographs of members having fun and enjoying themselves.

The winning club was Superclub Holiday Club, run by Supertots Nurseries, based in Norden. Second prize went to Hip Hop Holiday Club run by RADPAC, based in Heywood. Genesis Out of School Club from Milnrow won third prize.

The competition was organised by Sure Start, and judged by local professional photographer Alan Hamer. The winners were announced last week when the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali, presented them with certificates and prizes. The entries will now be on display there until the middle of August.

Karen Blackledge, Out of School Development Officer for Rochdale said: “The clubs responded very enthusiastically to the competition and the standard and variety of photographs was excellent.

“We hope that people will come along and see them at The Wheatsheaf Centre over the next few weeks and they get everybody thinking about children’s right to play.”
