Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was found with a serious head injury in Rochdale.

At about 11.45pm on Saturday 17 July 2010, police were called to Balderstone Library, Oldham Road, Rochdale, following reports a man had been found collapsed.

Officers attended and found a man, aged 39, had been taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

He has undergone surgery and remains in a stable condition.

It is not known how he came to be injured.

Detective Sergeant Graham Hook, of Rochdale CID, said: "We have spoken to the man and unfortunately he cannot remember what happened.

"We know he was out drinking on Saturday night and left the Bay Horse pub at about 11pm. He was found by a group of youths who called emergency services about half-an-hour later.

"There is a window of about thirty minutes unaccounted for and we need to establish what has happened so if anyone can help me I would urge them to get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4557 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
