Playwright prepares for Scottish festival

An upcoming playwright and actor, from Newhey, is preparing to take his play to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

Zach Lee, has written a play called: ‘Two Brothers and One World Cup,’ about a pair of rivalling football mad brothers.

The play marks a return to writing for the 43-year-old who has concentrated on acting since leaving college, starring on both TV and stage.

Mr Lee and his co-star Ian Curley from Manchester will be rehearsing for a gruelling eight hours a day for three weeks this summer.

To support Mr Lee, Hopwood Hall has allowed him to rehearse his play at the college over the summer.

Mr Lee has raised all the money for putting this show on and promoting it himself, and so not having to pay for rehearsal space is a huge help.

Mr Lee said: “To receive support from Hopwood Hall College has been absolutely wonderful. The Edinburgh Festival is a huge drain on financial resources, so the offer of a rehearsal space is priceless for Stripes Theatre Company.

“It's great to know that the local college was fully behind us and I'd like to thank the Principal, Derek O'Toole for his generous gesture.”
