Deeplish Primary School
It was the turn of Mrs Isherwood’s class to visit Touchstones museum this week to learn about the Vikings and Mrs Vickers’ class to go to Hollingworth Lake try their hand at canoeing and sailing. Both classes had a great time.
On Tuesday most of our Year 6 children spent the day at the high school they will be attending in September. Whilst they are looking forward to this, most are a little sad that they are leaving primary school.
Also, on Tuesday, it was our Summer Fair. This, as usual, was well supported by staff and very well attended by parents and children. The total sum raised was a magnificent £520. Thank you everyone.
It was the last of the transitional circle times for some of our children who will be attending Kingsway Park High School in September. Thank you to Mrs Suthers-Latif and your team for organising this to help our children.
Miss Regan’s class spent a day at the CLC this week using IT to help with their themed topic of rivers. They produced a cartoon style report of their trip to Healey Dell.
Our boy’s football team played Spotland Primary School at home this week. Although they didn’t win, the boys played extremely well showing their usual great sportsmanship.
To help their transition into year 1, our reception class joined with the present year 1 children for a “Pirate day” on Thursday.
Children, and staff, dressed up as pirates and had great fun making treasure maps, finding treasure by following clues and lots more exciting activities. The costumes were brilliant – there was even a talking parrot.
The whole school, including our Nursery children, were treated to a performance of “The Little Princess.” This excellent show was delivered by M and M Productions and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
We had some musical visitors in school on Friday when Razwan Sarwar and his group Asian Fuzion arrived.
They talked to the children about the instruments they use - keyboards, sitar and tabla, followed by a wonderful musical show to the whole school.
Attendance champions this week were Mrs Afzal’s class in Key Stage 1 with 100% and joint winners in Key Stage 2 with Mrs Roberts’ and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes achieving 97.2%. Early Birds were Mrs Akhtar’s and Miss Regan’s classes. Winners of the 100% weekly attendance prizes went to Sapphira and Saqib. Well done all of you.
Best wishes to all the Year 6s who are leaving the school and a happy summer holiday to all the staff, pupils and families.
