Family fun at the Freehold Street Festival
Date published: 18 July 2010
The whole community came together today (Sunday 18 July 2010) to enjoy the Freehold Street Festival Mela.
The street was transformed with colourful bunting and lots decorations to celebrate the Mela, now in its 36th year.
It seems 36 years on the festival is still as popular as ever with children and families coming along throughout the day.
Face painting, rides and music from the Rochdale Music Service were just a handful of things on offer to visitors of the event.
Organiser Dr. Mohammed Salim described the day as ‘the most successful yet’ he said: “If the weather holds out I think we will be here until 9 or 10 o’clock tonight.
“So many people have come to take part and get involved, it is such a good day, there are so many happy faces.
“I hope that everyone is enjoying themselves. I can see smiling faces. Today is a good day, a chance for everyone to come out and enjoy some happiness.”
Dr Salim added: “It is all about bringing everyone together and that is why we do it every year. We have been going for 36 years and this is the most successful. Despite the weather people are here and they are happy.”
