Middfest is a hit with the crowd

Date published: 18 July 2010

Families gathered together today (Sunday 18 July 2010) for the annual Middleton Festival.

People flocked to Limefield Park in Middleton to celebrate the ‘Middfest’ in style.

A whole host of stalls were on offer as well as a fun fair, coach loads of Morris dancing troops, and even Britain’s Got Talent star Liam McNally.

The festival is now in its 11th year and is organised in conjunction with Middleton Round Table and the Middleton Township.

Preparations for the event were finally put into place last night with stall holders setting up ready for the big day.

Chairman of the Middleton Festival group, Pete Green said: “It has gone really well. Setting up was quite busy but now people are arriving it is calm and enjoyable.

“We just want people to enjoy themselves and have fun. The weather is a big factor but we are all happy so far.

“Looking around at the people here I would say more groups than ever have got involved. It is a really nice day for the community.”

The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali officially opened the festival at noon today, he said: “My thanks go to the Round Table president and all its members.

“I believe they have worked very hard to put this festival on for local people and it is nice to see so many children and parents here today.”
