Community fire safety team visits young and old
Date published: 15 July 2010
The Community Fire Safety Team have been touring round Rochdale giving advice to the youngest and oldest of our community.
Steve Ashworth and Mick Cryer have delivered their message to parents at Castlemere Children’s Centre, various high schools around the borough and retired UNISON members at the Town Hall.
Describing the topics at the different places, Mr. Ashworth said: “At the children’s centre we talked about what to do in an emergency situation and what you would have to do to evacuate the home with the children in the house.
“In high schools we have been reminding the children of the dangers of swimming in dangerous, unknown waters in the area and encouraging them to swim for free at the local baths.
“And finally, at the Town Hall we talked about escape plans for the elderly and what to do in the event of a fire in the home.”
It seemed that everyone was pleased with the talks given. Pat Foster, Retired UNISON member, said: “we thoroughly enjoyed a very amusing, whilst informative presentation from the boys.”
At the children’s centre, Zahida Ikram added: “it was a very valuable lesson that the mums had received.”
