A group of 11 to 15 year olds on Hopwood Hall College’s Junior Masterchef course were presented with their Certificates of Achievement in front of proud parents last week.

The course runs for 10 weeks at a time on Saturday mornings at the College’s Rochdale campus.

The interactive sessions comprise of a demonstration of the dishes to be prepared; the young students then get to prepare and cook the dishes themselves, with support from the tutor.

The youngsters get to produce a couple of dishes per week encompassing a wide range of cooking skills and activities. At the end of the course the students and their families are invited to a presentation in the college restaurant, ‘The Cottons’.

Junior Masterchef is a great way of teenagers getting into different work experience form their peers.

The course could also be the start to a career; one previous Junior Masterchef pupil has now got a job at the College; Thomas Scholes started on the Junior Chef programme whilst still at school and now works at the College in the Bistro at the Rochdale campus.

Tutor Michelle Spencer said: “These kids were just great.”
