Pupils Academic Performance – Record Levels – The results of pupils in Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 are all outstanding and are a vast improvement upon those of last year, above local and national averages.
Year 6 Key Stage 2 SATs 2011 will take place from Monday 9th May until Friday 13th May 2011 – Pupils absence from school for holidays will not be authorised during this period. Please avoid these dates.
Reminder for all that holiday leave will only be granted where pupils’ attendance rate for both the current term and previous term is 95% or above.
Staffing Matters:
Mrs N. Taylor (teacher) is to retire at the end of term having served at this school for 27 years. Her valuable contribution has been much appreciated and we wish her well in the future.
Ms D. Spooner (teaching assistant) is also leaving having provided support to an individual pupil who is to transfer to high school. We convey our thanks and best wishes to her.
Mrs S. Lambert will commence maternity leave next week and we look forward to her return in the New Year.
Ms J. Walsh will continue temporarily to cover Ms McConnell’s maternity leave.
Ms S. Coglan will join the teaching staff as from September as a permanent recruit and will work in Key Stage 2.
Fund Raisers:
Our Strawberry Tea Party raised over £520 in aid of Breast Cancer
Paddington Bear Birthday Party in FS and Key Stage 1 raised an amazing £109 for ‘Medical Research for Children’ the children and staff had a great time making an assortment of ‘sticky’ sandwiches
PENS PENNIE & PENCILS:
Last year we had a successful collection in our school to help a school in Uganda. We were able to send a large quantity of pens, pencils and money (about £250) thanks to your generosity. Please can you help us again this year by sending into school pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, loose change (any coins welcome) and old school uniform you no longer need. The charity “Agapeo” including people from Rochdale will make sure that your donations reach the children that need them.
Sports:
Rochdale Athletics at Springhill was a great success with lots of medal winners:-
Year 5 Girls Relay – Sian Young, Nieve Pegg, Samantha Butterworth, Hannah Hernon came 2nd winning the Silver Medal
60m Sprint Girls – Hannah Hernon came 1st winning the Gold Medal
60m Sprint Boys – Ryan Jones came 3rd winning the Bronze Medal
80m Sprint Girls – Nylah O’Connor came 2nd winning the Silver Medal
Congratulations and well done everyone who took part.
Balloon Race Winners:
1st Prize went to Joshua Wareing in Year 3 whose balloon travelled 135 miles to Worcester and won a £30 gift voucher 2nd Prize went to Zainab Ashraf in Reception whose balloon travelled 116 miles to Hampton-in-Arden, West Midlands and won a £20 gift voucher and 3rd Prize went to Allyah Mohammed in whose balloon travelled 110 miles to Loughborough and won a £10 gift voucher.
End of Year School Events:
19 July Good Behaviour Tea Party and 21 July Year 6 Leavers Assembly.
School Closes on Wednesday 21 July at 3pm and Re-opens on Monday 6 September at 08.50am. Have a safe and enjoyable summer.
