Road casualties decrease

The death toll on Greater Manchester’s roads has dropped by 22 per cent, according to a new report.
Figures released by DriveSafe, Greater Manchester’s Casualty Reduction Partnership, show a 14 per cent drop in the number of people seriously injured on the roads.
The total number of casualties — fatal, serious and slight — has decreased by 13 per cent.
Karen Delaney, communications manager at DriveSafe, said: “These results are very encouraging and reflect the on-going hard work and commitment of the partnership to bring casualty numbers down on Greater Manchester’s roads.
“The number of pedestrian fatalities is higher than that of any other road user, which is why we’re constantly looking at ways to drive these statistics down.”
In September, DriveSafe will launch a campaign aimed at encouraging pedestrians to be more aware of their environment and potential risks caused by the distractions of mobile phones and similar devices.
