A tour party leaving The Coach House
The Friends of Littleborough Coach House were delighted to attract over 50 visitors to take part in guided walks which started from the Coach House yesterday (Sunday 11 July 2010).
Each walker received a copy of “The Guide to the Historic Centre of Littleborough” written by local historian Peter Cryer for Littleborough Historical & Archaeological Society whose members led three parties of visitors around picturesque Littleborough Centre.
The Heritage Centre, Parish Church, Railway Viaduct, Canal Wharf, Railway Station, Littleborough Square, Cenotaph, Church Street Properties, Top O’t Boro, Hare Hill Road Properties, Hare Hill House, Bare Hill and Wellington Lodge were among the many places whose history was explained.
The groups then returned to the Littleborough Coach House on Lodge Street for a Strawberry Tea and all agreed that it had been a grand afternoon.
John Kay of the friends group said: “Littleborough is acknowledged as the centre for tourism within the Rochdale Borough and the Friends of the Coach House are determined to see that the heritage centre remains at the centre of such activities.”
