Travellers in Shawclough
Travellers have set up on two sites across Rochdale in the last ten days.
The first group of travellers moved on to land in-between Greenbank Road and Taylor Street last Wednesday (23 June 2010).
The common just off Whitworth Road is close to All Saints Primary School and St Patricks RC Primary School.
A spokesperson for the council said: “An eviction order was obtained through the court this week and the travellers will be removed from Cronkeyshaw today (Friday 2 July) by Rochdale Borough Councils Planning Enforcement Team.”
A second group of travellers moved onto a stretch of land in Shawclough just off Tulip Grove yesterday (Thursday 1 July 2010).
The council spokesperson added: “We are aware that travellers have moved onto Tulip Grove and are following government guidance before deciding on the next steps.”
